In-between Spaces

An intervention into the city of Manchester exploring ideas of private and public spaces, in this case the advertising billboard as a site for artistic communication.

The poster project puts images on billboards of things we would not normally see there. The work by all the artists are by someone or of something which is in some way marginal – a portrait of a sales assistant in the retail district, an image of the city becoming the recreation/entertainment center of the North.

Includes art work By Suzanne Smith, Inés Rae, Pam Holmes, Joe Devlin and John Goodwin on billboard sites on Whitworth St, in Salford, Shude Hill, Beswick and near Victoria station.

23 April - 7 May 2007 Booklet and video available

Curated by Claire Corrin, Inés Rae and Daniella Watson
